International Mail Processing Procedures:
As of May 1997 International Mail weighing 1 lb + must have a USPS Customs
Sender's Declaration Form (PS Form 2976 May 1996) filled out before
it can be processed for mailing by the Institute.
The person packing the material to be mailed must fill out both the

before putting it out for pick up by Delivery Services. Pieces without
these USPS forms or forms with incomplete information will be returned
to the Department.
If there is any doubt about the weight, please contact Delivery
Services for assistance or to request a supply of forms.

Handling Suspicious Mail
The following safety advisory on anthrax was issued by MIT's Director
of Public Safety Anne P. Glavin:
The Massachusetts Department of Public Health, in
conjunction with the Centers for Disease Control, has
issued some additional, helpful guidelines on the
handling of mail and when law enforcement authorities
should be contacted. Those guidelines have been
incorporated into this advisory.
